I thought I should go in more depth about the type of masks that you can get in the case of an emergency or virus epidemic. A disposable N95 respirator is something that you can cheaply purchase and use whenever you're outside. It is something that you can throw in the garbage once you're done with it. There many of these on the market and since the average consumer isn't going out and buying them, you probably don't have the first clue what you're getting yourself into. Well, I thought I could help you out and give you enough knowledge to get by.

N95 is actually something that describes the filtering rate. The masks are capable of filtering out 95% of the particles that come through it. I know when we think of our health we want 99.999%, but this is actually a pretty good number for a simple disposable mask. It should block out anything that you fear. And this is something you should own because you never know when the next swine flu is coming. If you're on a public bus or something, you'll want one of these on because they're the prime places where viruses like that spread.

I have a picture to the right of what I'm talking about and these are pretty good. You'll notice that this isn't some medical mask you would see a doctor wearing. This is a little more sophisticated with an exhalation on the front of it. This makes it quite good for dusty environments or germy environments. The cost of such a thing isn't that much. They cost about $2 each. They don't sell as singles though. You'll get a pack of ten for $20.

This is what you should be looking at. You don't have to use them every day. I would have them sitting in a first aid kit or in my own. If you work in a dusty environment then you might want to pick up some of them for work. But the point is that you need to have these around because you don't know when something could happen. This could be something that ends up saving your life and I hope that you realize how important something as simple and cheap as this can be.

There are many other respirators like this on the market and I could hardly go into them all. They all have their benefits, but you have to remember that you will wish you bought them in advance if something came up. I don't want to use the T word (terrorist attack) because that is a big deal. Having a N95 respirator around could be the difference between you getting sick and your family getting sick.
